Fruit is an important component of an athlete’s diet. Simple carbs are used by your body quickly, while complex carbs such as bread, pasta, and rice take longer to break down and convert into energy. As a rule of thumb, I try to eat a piece of fruit at breakfast, as it gives my body a quick burst of energy while my bacon and eggs digest.
I keep my fruit bowl stocked with bananas, oranges, and apples on a regular basis. I also love strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple. This fruit salad only takes ten minutes to prepare on Sundays, and is perfect to eat first thing in the morning for the next few days. Sometimes I’ll just eat the fruit plain, but for an extra few minutes, it’s well worth it to add the honey lime dressing. Not only is it extra tasty, but the honey adds another simple sugar that’s easy for your body to convert into energy.

Honey Lime Fruit Salad
|Prep time||10 minutes|
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 lime
- 2lb strawberries
- 1 pint blueberries
- 2 cups green grapes
|In a medium bowl, whisk together the juice of the lime and the honey.|
|Wash all the fruit and add the strawberries (cut into quarters), blueberries and grapes.|
|Mix well and chill.|
